Lady Nkoyo Edet Ekpo was born on the 10th day of June 1956 in Uboro Isong Inyang village in the present Udung Uko Local Government area, Akwa Ibom State. She was amongst the pioneer students of University of Nigeria Nsukka, Calabar campus, which metamorphosed into the University of Calabar in 1975, where she graduated with BSc in Biological Science in 1980.
Her desire to help foster creativity in an educational environment especially in the area of scientific studies, led her to enrol into Cross River State education service as a science teacher, where she passionately taught Chemistry and Biology subjects at West African People's Institute, St Patrick's College Ikot Ansa and Hope Waddell Training Institute, all in Calabar, from 1981 to 1994. Between 1994 – 1997, she also dutifully served as Education Secretary in Urue Offong Oruko and Okobo LGA in Akwa Ibom State. In this position, she facilitated the training and upgrading of primary school teachers within her section in Nigeria Teacher Institute Kaduna. These teachers are currently armed with various academic degrees and active in delivering strategic educational services in Akwa Ibom State.
Upon her migration to New York City in the United States of America in 1997, she made further commitment to excellence, by continuing as a teacher at Immaculate Middle High School Bronx, New York, where she ensured that students attained the best results in New York State standardised examinations. As a New York State certified teacher from State University of Albany and College Prep Coach, her skills helped in shaping the background of multiracial students.
On her retirement in January 2022 after 41 years of service, Lady Nkoyo Edet Ekpo has not rested on her oars. She devotes her time and resources towards human capacity building and community development both at home and in the diaspora. She served as pioneer female National President of Oron Development Union USA (ODU USA), former Chairman Board of Trustees of Akwa Ibom State Association of Nigeria Inc USA (AKISAN), and currently Trustees Secretary Oron Development Union USA. In all these organisations, she has shown utmost dedication to the service of humanity, exhibited transparency and accountability at all levels.
Today, she is known to be amongst the very few Nigerians committed to the service of uplifting the community and developing the people. The outreach to community which she initiated during the COVID-19 global lockdown has continued to record greater impact in the society. Through a not-for-profit organisation known as Edet Ekpo Bassey Uwe Educational Foundation (EEBUEF), several students studying in Nigerian universities have been awarded full tertiary scholarships in Akwa Ibom State. In past years, her organisation has trained and empowered sets of young ladies in various skills, equipped community primary schools with learning aids for effective teaching, created awareness on healthcare amongst teenage girls, and sponsored lifelong projects to strengthen school enrolment and education quality.
Lady Nkoyo Edet Ekpo is a certified New York State teacher, an educationist, a community builder. She is the Managing Director / CEO of Nebanfive Global Services Limited.
